Wave Watching in Hawaii

Doug and I went to Hawaii on our honeymoon in 1987. I recently sat down and scanned the slides from that trip into the computer. The cold winter months seem like a good time to look back and enjoy a little dose of Hawaii, so here are a few pictures from that island paradise, about as far removed from winter as one can get.

The beautiful ocean waves are the subject of this post. The people you will see surfing in these photos are not me or Doug. (After all, someone had to take the pictures.)

There's just something mesmerizing about these waves. They're so beautiful. And each one is different. I could sit for hours and just watch.

  3. I would be right there on the shore with you 'watching' the waves, not being in them. These are gorgeous shots.

  5. What a fantastic place to honeymoon! The waves really are mesmerizing. Some are powerful and some gentle. Amazing. I haven't been to Hawaii, but I have captured surfers/waves in CA which I thoroughly enjoyed. Hours just melt away out there.

  7. Bossy Betty - Yes...they're addictive!

Stephen - Thank you. I can tell that you understand the pull that these waves can have on a person.

Thanks, Steve. Glad you enjoyed the pictures.

Theresa - Ha! It works any way you say it.

    Thanks kindly, Ruth.

Hilary - Ah, yes...the roaring is all part of the experience.

Gail - Doug had been stationed in Hawaii during the Viet Nam war. Not a bad assignment, huh? Anyway, it was nice to be there with him, especially since he knew his way around. It's such a beautiful place.

Betsy - I hope you and George can make it there someday. To say the least, it's very photogenic. These 25-year-old photos haven't been edited at all. The water is really that blue.

    1. I'm sure you would enjoy wave watching as much as I do, George. Actually, in some ways, they're similar to waterfalls. :) Thanks for the very kind words about the photos.

  9. Linda, you've been taking GREAT pics for years...ever since you were a kid :) Terry and I loved the beaches on Oahu. We were stationed there 43 years ago when he was in the Army...we were not much more than kids way back then! Great memories!

    1. Thanks, Diane. I had a film camera back then, but it was a very good one. I was amazed at how well these images held up over the years. Glad you enjoyed this little blast from the past. :)
