Still More Dragonflies

These dragonfly photos were taken almost three weeks ago and are just now finding their way to the blog.

Each summer, it gets harder to maintain the house and yard. We're aging, you know, as difficult as it is to accept that fact. So, this summer, we're getting some much-needed maintenance taken care of...things that would need to be done if we stayed here but that would also help sell the house if we decide to go that direction.

Among other things, we're getting a new front door. The house is nearly 45 years old, and the entry door has never been replaced. The wood in the side panels has cracked enough that we can see daylight through the cracks. So it's time. We've ordered the door and have hired an installer. So it's not in yet, but here's a picture of it from the online catalog:

When it arrives and is installed, I'll post before and after pictures.

We're also having a new roof put on the house and adding an improved venting system for the attic, along with a few other improvements and maintenance items. It's been time consuming and sometimes stressful as we line up professionals to take care of these things, but we're seeing the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.

As a friend likes to say, we just hope the light at the end of the tunnel isn't an oncoming train.

  1. Hey Dragonfly QUEEN---You did it again... They are such beautiful creatures --which most of us just ignore..... Thanks for sharing.

We too are faced with things inside and outside which need to be done.... It's somewhat overwhelming when I think about the long list... Luckily, we have done some big things through the years (new roof, new deck, new furnace/AC, House painted, new gutters, etc.etc.etc. BUT---the big thing we are faced with inside now is new flooring... Our carpet is pretty stained ---and everyone says to go with wooden-type floors.... Still not sure!!!!

Outside is another thing since we both are getting too old to care for this big yard.... Oh Well--it's all in God's time.. Right????

    Hugs,
    Betsy

    1. Hi, Betsy. I ignored dragonflies myself...for years. I thought they were creepy. But they're beautiful and amazing fliers; and they eat mosquitoes. That makes them pretty special in my book.

We probably need to consider a new furnace, too; although we do have ours inspected and serviced every year. It's 24 years old, though. Time flies.

    1. Thank you, Ruth. I know you know about home maintenance. And you don't have Jake to share the load with you. I wouldn't want to shoulder the responsibility alone. I'm spoiled. Doug takes care of just about all of those things.

  3. I didn't realize that there were so many different kinds of dragonflies, but I surely do enjoy your posts featuring them! Very nice door...I'll look to pictures of the new door installed. You are so wise in taking care of things like that now.

    1. I'm glad you're enjoying the dragonfly photos, Dianna. I have fun getting them. The things we're doing on the house needed to be done, whether we decide to stay here or sell. Wisdom might have taken care of them earlier; foolishness would say it could wait awhile longer. :)

  4. I like the new door you are installing. I hope those house works will be done with quickly. We are painting next week, but luckily I will be at the seaside and others will take care of that :D

  5. It's a nice variety of the dragonflies, Linda, I especially love the green one.

Maintenance is important but sometimes challenging, I admire your willingness to go in that direction. I'm not sure why but the new door reminds me of Bible, it must be the patterns in the glass panes... Or you in connection with the door! :)

    1. Thank you, Petra. That green one was challenging to photograph as it blended in so well with the weeds. I don't seem to see that many of the females, compared to the males. I don't think they perch as much as the males do.

What a sweet comment about the new door. ;)

  6. Hi, I'm Ginny. I saw your comment on Ruth's blog and loved the title, Since I find beauty everywhere. You sure are a great photographer, the dragonfly pictures are beautiful, sharp and amazing. And so many different kinds! The last two are my favorites. When you own a house, there is always something to fix up, it is never ending. Your new door is very classy!
