Yellowstone: Biscuit Basin and Mystic Falls

After enjoying the display put on by Old Faithful on September 20, we decided to take a hike to Mystic Falls. The trail to the falls starts at the back of Biscuit Basin, so the first two photos are scenes from Biscuit Basin.

The hike to Mystic Falls was fairly easy and a pleasant walk. The next images were taken along the trail. Most of the trees along the trail are those that have grown since the 1988 fires.

This was our first sight of the falls. But it's only the bottom part.

This isn't a great shot, but you can get a better idea of the full size of the waterfall.

What do you think...an osprey nest maybe?

Here, we're almost back to the beginning of the trail,
but I stopped for photos of the reflections in the water puddles.

  1. I enjoyed seeing the sapphire and then the almost mustard color at Biscuit Basin. The waterfalls is pretty and it would appear that the trail back to the falls was an enjoyable journey as well. Thanks so much for sharing , Linda.

  5. That sapphire pool is awesome!! And the gold, serpentine runoff makes for an eye-catching photo. Do you think that nest might be an eagle's nest? It appears pretty large. Dang, I wish you could've seen the bird that owned that. Beautiful area; thank you for sharing your travels. In case you don't post again, I hope you and Doug have a marvelous Thanksgiving!

  6. That certainly brought back memories, Linda… We love the colors at Biscuit Basin --and enjoyed the waterfall hike also. That is where we passed by a Buffalo about 6-8 feet off of our trail… Luckily he paid no attention to us.. BUT--that was a hiking first for us!!!! ha

    Hugs,
    Betsy
