Our friends, Winston and Patty, were planning activities to include in their vacation to Put-In-Bay, on South Bass Island, in Lake Erie. One of those activities was a sailing trip on Lake Erie on August 9, and they invited us to join them for that. We were delighted to accept.
The day was beautiful, with a nice breeze to fill the sails.

Doug and me. That's our captain, on his cell phone, with his back to us. Winston was at the helm. |

A collage of photos of Winston and Patty. Each took a turn at the helm. |

Doug also took a turn at the helm. |

Starve Island |
It's said that two-mile-long Starve Island gets its name from the fate of a sailor who was shipwrecked there.

Perry's Memorial

Perry's Memorial commemorates the Battle of Lake Erie, one of the most significant naval battles to occur in the War of 1812.
It was a fun day, and we so appreciated Winston and Patty's invitation to join them.
Looks like SO much fun... I did't see a picture of YOU at the helm!!!!!! Doug certainly looked like he was enjoying himself.... Oh how sad about the sailor who was shipwrecked at "Starve Island"... I assume that he starved to death.... Tragic....
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your day. I would have loved it.
Hugs,
Betsy
It really was fun, Betsy. It was something we've never done before, and we had a perfect day for it. I didn't take the helm. I was content to enjoy the ride from where I was. Besides, someone had to take pictures! :)
DeleteCaptain Jim loks the part but Jim looks well as well. I woujld live to have been there. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteCaptain Jim does look healthy, doesn't he? His lifestyle evidently suits him.
DeleteThat does look like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteIt really was, Ruth.
DeleteWhat a wonderful way to spend some time with good friends. It looks like the day was perfect for it. I enjoyed seeing pictures of you and Doug, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt was really a great time out on the water, very relaxing. And everything's better with friends, right?
DeleteHow nice to get to join in on. i love to be ojn the water, sailing is even better. Never been in one that big.
ReplyDeleteDoug and I got to go out on a sailboat when we were on our honeymoon in Hawaii. But that was 31 years ago, and this was the first time since then. I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy a day on a sailboat one day soon.
DeleteI am so glad to hear you enjoyed the sailing, Linda, what a great opportunity it was to experience something special.
ReplyDeleteIt was so enjoyable, Petra. It's just so relaxing to be out on the water, especially in a sailboat where there's no motor noise.
