Like Chicken?

When I was going through my archived photos recently, I came across this set of images of a few roosters that were roaming around the "Pioneer Village" at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, near Cherokee, North Carolina.

These were shot in November, 2008, with my Kodak Z612 point and shoot camera. I found the colors on these birds most beautiful.

Isn't that tail gorgeous?

And this one had attitude.

My new Canon Powershot SX50 has arrived, but I haven't had much time to play around with it. I hope to be sharing some photos here real soon, though.

  2. Your photos are excellent.. Hope you enjoy the new camera as much... Can't imagine it taking any 'better' photos than the camera you had....

I love that village near Cherokee... We went there once when they were having a Bird Show.. There was an Eagle there they were demonstrating... Need to find those photos...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  5. The colors and feathers on that bird are really dramatic! He looks all "doodied up" (as we say around here) for a partay. Can't wait to see the images from your new toy. Have fun! Hopefully the next few days will be conducive to photography.

  6. Steve - Most of us never really look at a chicken, but they can be beautiful, too. :)

    Theresa - Aren't they, though?

Ah, Betsy, you're very kind. It's been pretty wet and stormy here. Not suitable weather to take my new camera outside. Soon, though. I would have loved to see that bird show you mentioned. I wonder if it's an annual event.

Hilary - Leave it to you. I guess that's where that word came from, eh?

Stephen - Thanks. You'll never look at a chicken the same way again, will you?

Gail - Aren't they colorful? And such attitude. I'll try to get some SX50 pictures up soon.

    1. Ruth - I thought the color and pattern in their feathers was just amazing. We can still have fun learning our new cameras together as we share our experiences and photos by email and blog. :)

    1. Thank you, George. I think that first rooster is my favorite, too, although they all had beautiful coloring.

  9. The photos are most fascinating and beautiful.
It looks like they all want to be king of the pen!

    1. Thanks,KD. Aren't their colors interesting? There really wasn't a pen. They were wandering around the barnyard. But I think they all DID want to be king. :)

  10. The rooster in the last picture, I think in a year or two would make a great skin for tying flies :-o Sorry, but my mind just went to the practical

  11. The feathers are beautiful indeed, Linda, the colours as well as the shapes. And I wonder about the attitude, what it should express. Any idea? :)

  12. GQ - Well, I think this particular rooster will probably live out his life in contentment. You'll just have to get your flies elsewhere. Good to hear from you, my friend.

Petra - The "attitude" is just what is fairly common to most males in the animal world...showing off to attract the females and intimidate other males.
