Southern Charm

I had another post in mind for today, but my Flickr photo account says I've used my limit for this month and won't be able to upload more photos until the first of November, unless I upgrade to a paid account. Unwilling to do that, I thought I'd just share this cute story that someone sent me in an e-mail:

Two informally dressed ladies happened to start up a conversation during an endless wait in the LAX airport. The first lady was an arrogant California woman married to a wealthy man. The second was a well -mannered elderly woman from the South.

When the conversation turned to their children, the California woman started by saying, "When my first child was born, my husband built a beautiful mansion for me."

The lady from the South commented, "Well, bless your heart."

The first woman continued, "When my second child was born, my husband bought me a beautiful Mercedes-Benz."

Again, the lady from the South commented, "Well, bless your heart."

The first woman continued boasting, "Then, when my third child was born, my husband bought me this exquisite diamond bracelet."

Yet again, the Southern lady commented, "Well, bless your heart."

The first woman then asked her companion, "What did your husband buy for you when you had your first child?"

"My husband sent me to charm school," declared the Southern lady.

"Charm school?" the first woman cried, "Oh, my word! What on earth for?"

The Southern lady responded, "Well, for example, I learned to say, 'Well, bless your heart.' instead of saying 'Who gives a crap?'"

  1. Cute story.... Made me laugh.... Guess I didn't go to Charm School since I probably would want to say: "Who gives a crap?" ha ha ha

Getting any wind/rain/snow from that storm?? So far, all we have gotten is high winds.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  4. LOL! Thanks for the laugh. We do say that a lot in the South. And the recipient never realizes they're been put in their place. I love being a GRITS. :)

  5. LOL.. love it and it reminds me of another one - an old favourite. Let's see if I can find it...

Two women, a Southern belle and a wealthy Northerner are each traveling alone by plane. The friendly belle turns to the woman beside her and starts a conversation. She asks, “So, where y'all from?”

The other woman turns up her nose and says, “I’m from a place where we do not end sentences with prepositions.”

Without missing a beat, the belle replies, “So, where y'all from, bitch?”

  6. Betsy - Glad the story gave you a chuckle. The storm didn't get bad here. The wind's been howling, and the lights went off just long enough that we had to reset the clocks. What's happening here is nothing compared to what the east coast is going through.

Stephen - Yep. They don't call it "charm" school for nothing.

Theresa - I'll never hear "bless your heart" again without wondering if the speaker is sincere. :)

Gail - I had to look up "GRITS." For any other northerners who aren't familiar with that acronym, it stands for "Girls Raised in the South." So I guess that makes us "GRITN." It just doesn't have the same ring to it. :)

Oh, Hilary - Is there any story you can't top? :)
