Our summer was so full of doctor appointments that we were unable to schedule any travel until the week of November 5-10; and we took that opportunity to visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee, a favorite destination for us.
The first four pictures were shot on a drizzly morning in Wears Valley, just outside the national park.

We were in the Smokies for four full days, and it was rainy and dreary almost the entire time. The photos of the trees beside the road and of the viewing platform were taken during a very brief period of sunshine.
We love the Smokies, though, so the weather didn't dampen our spirits. The rain was never so bad that we couldn't get out into the park and walk some of the trails. The photos in this post were all from our first day there. I'll have a few more in a future post or two.
I love The Smokies! You certainly got some great shots despite the weather. I like the old barn full of hay...well all were gorgeous

DeleteLike you, we love the Smokies no matter what season or what weather... Sorry though that it was dreary almost the entire week for you.... The colors were actually prettier when you were there then when we were there earlier.... We wanted to get back there about the time you were there --but just couldn't work a trip into our schedules...

Betsy, this was the first time in our memory that almost the entire stay was dreary. But we still had a good time. We left the day the sun came out...the same day you and George drove the Foothills Parkway. Happy Thanksgiving to you and George, too!

ReplyDeleteWe love the Smokies in MOST seasons and weather. We're not too keen on the hot and humid summer months. Thanks so much for the kind comments about the photos. That misty rain and fog worked for me on that river shot, didn't it?
DeleteThough late fall, you really had some nice fall foliage to work with. Love the walking path of the viewing platform. The view of course is gorgeous and stunning. I love fall as you may know, so getting to see it in your images so late in November is a real treat! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving celebration.

Thanks, Mersad. The color was still pretty nice at lower elevations. Not so much up higher. We almost always stop at that viewing place. The view from there is pretty stunning at any time of the year and in any weather.
DeleteThose are lovely photos of lovely scenes, Linda. :) It's good that you didn't let the weather discourage you from visiting the places. The colours were still quite prominent at the time. I remember the Mingus Mill from your earlier post and I'm pleased to see it in this collection.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Petra. We were blessed in that the rain was never so heavy as to endanger our cameras. The late-season fall colors were another blessing. Mingus Mill is rather picturesque. I haven't gotten a photo yet that is quite what I want, which is why I keep trying I guess. I'm glad you didn't mind seeing it again. :)
