Autumn Beauty in the UP

As we drove home from Gitche Gumee Bible Camp last September, the fall colors in Michigan's Upper Peninsula were at their peak. Our route took us past Lake Plumbago in Baraga County, and the sight of the trees, in all their fall glory, reflected in the still water of the lake, just took our breath away.

A little further down the road, we saw a sign promoting a trail to Canyon Falls. Well, Doug and I are suckers for waterfalls; and, by then, we were needing to stretch our legs a little. So off we went in search of a new waterfall.

We came to this little waterfall but were assured by other hikers that this was not Canyon Falls.

Canyon Falls...worth the hike

Doug took this image with our camcorder.

Next stop on our way home was the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. But it deserves a post of its own. Stay tuned.

  4. It was so refreshing for me to look at these amazing fall images. We are having the worst heatwave here, it's so hot..my days are spent under the AC... :)

  6. Looks like a nice flat area to perch above the falls. Bet that attracts sun worshipers in the summer months.

  7. Thank you, Ruth. The fall colors WERE gorgeous when we were there.

Linda - The trail to the waterfall wasn't long...only about 10 minutes...but we made it longer with all our photo stops. :)

Margaret - The fall colors in the trees did add to our enjoyment of the flowing water.

Mersad - I don't do well in extreme heat, so I feel for you.

George - You and Betsy would have loved Canyon Falls.

Steve - We didn't see any sun worshipers that day, but you could be right about that.

    Thanks, Tex!

  9. It was a very pretty trail, Petra, not really very long or difficult and with a beautiful waterfall and canyon at the end of it. I didn't get any good images of the canyon because it was in heavy shadow when we were there. The autumnal colors you mentioned certainly added to the enjoyment of the walk.
