Double-Crested Cormorant

The Double-crested Cormorant, another bird that we saw in Florida last month, is similar in some ways to the Anhinga, especially in the way that both birds are frequently seen standing with wings spread as they dry their feathers. We saw lots of these cormorants but were never treated to the sight of the double crest that gives them their name.

  6. One spring when they first came in I found a large group roosting in a big tree with their wings out drying off. t looked like a Halloween scene almost.

Your favorite pic in my last post was also one of mine. I liked the varied banding of colors and textures.

  7. Great pictures, Linda. I love the scalloped feather pattern on the back of the one in the third photo. It must not have been breeding season when you saw these birds as I have read that is when they grow the crests. Have a great week!

  10. We have them here in abundance and I've never seen the double crest. :/ I love when they spread their wings to dry. They are very handsome birds with a unique pattern to their feathers. You photographed them well!

  12. Hi Linda! I have never heard of the bird, so I am even more at sea than Sparkle! But you really show the beauty of the birds, and how we are surrounded by God's creations. How blessed we are.
Good to see you again :)

  17. When I'm looking at them, especially at the first and last Cormorants, I wonder what they were feeling or perceiving while staying there... Nice shots, Linda.
