The small lake at Ouabache State Park had been drained all summer last year as work was underway to build a swimming beach. That reduced the number of dragonflies for me to photograph to...well...zero. And that resulted in a dearth of dragonfly photos on the blog last year.
Ah, but the beach is finished now; the lake is full; and the dragonflies are back!

Oh, wow! Great shots!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandi!
DeleteI so enjoy stalking dragonflies especially the perchers. I laugh how many shots I may take of each variety. A lovely array of photos
ReplyDeleteIf it weren't for perchers, Steve, I'd probably not have any photos of dragonflies. They're such quick and unpredictable fliers. And I have several shots of most of these. Just tried to pick a representative of each to show here. Thanks for the kind words.
DeleteYou take such gorgeous dragonfly shots. I'm glad they are back so you can get more pictures.
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks, Ruth. I'm glad they're back, too. I missed them last year.
DeleteLinda, you took some really good pics of the dragonflies, and several different types as well. I know you are glad they are back and all is as it should be.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually see this much variety at Ouabache, so I was pleased by that, too. We like to just sit by the lake and spend an afternoon of reading, but the draw of the dragonflies gets me out of my chair periodically. ;)
DeleteI'm also glad the dragonflies are back. Your photos are beautiful and contain such fascinating detail.
ReplyDeleteThank you, George!
DeleteGlad your Dragonflies came back this year ---just for you. You got some great photos of those little beauties....
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Thanks, Betsy. I used to be afraid of dragonflies...until I found out they eat mosquitoes. Now they're my friends. And they're fascinating little critters.
DeleteWOW!Nice to see such a beautiful dragonflies! I have not seen them before!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing them!
Thank you, WW. I imagine you've seen dragonflies buzzing around a lake or pond from time to time, just probably never observed them close up. I'm glad I could share them with you here.
DeleteLovely details... You could create a photo book from your dragonfly photos sorted according to the species, wouldn't it be a nice project?
ReplyDeleteA photo book would be a nice project, Petra. I'm not always totally confident of having the right identification, though. I can always go back and change the ID on the blog, if someone corrects me. But it would be so permanent in print. :)
