A Warm December

We have been having some of the warmest temperatures ever recorded for December in our area, nearly 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 Celsius) last week. On two of those days, we visited Ouabache State Park, something we've never been able to do in December.

Our chairs, where we enjoy reading by the lake at Ouabache.

On a walk around the lake, I took this shot back towards our reading spot.

This is part of a trail we started to hike, until turned back by mud that we weren't prepared to walk through.

Ouabache has a small herd of buffalo.

We saw a couple of yellow dandelions and this fuzzy one near the buffalo pen.

This shot of a rare December rainbow was taken from our house last Monday after a rain storm.

The warm weather doesn't feel much like Christmas, but I'm not complaining.

  1. Linda, your photos are gorgeous! It has been very strange and mild here in Montreal, and we have been getting rain, no snow...and lots of rain, too!

  2. I was warm in the car yesterday, but the winds reminded me winter cold is near. How unusual indeed. The winds were gong right through me hiking yesterday, I almost went back to the car for my parka.A group of us are meeting to do a flash mob around town tonight, we will sing "Silent Night".We all go as shoppers and converge for the song and then disappear as shoppers again.

  3. We're having a very warm December here in Tennessee as well. It's cool today, but may be near 70° for Christmas.

  4. Wow.. the light (not only the rainbow) in that last image is just stunning. What a beautiful shot. Gotta love the way the sun is so giving in winter for photography. It's been mild here also.. but not as mild as there. Still... I'll take it gladly!

Merry Christmas to you and yours, my friend! :)

  10. I love the captures, Linda, the rainbow is gorgeous. We also have quite warm weather here, about 10 to 12 degrees Celsius, the grass in the garden is greener than it was in summer and in some towns cherry trees start blossoming... Weird, I'd prefer frost and snow.

    1. Petra - I've enjoyed the warmer temperatures, but I recognize the need for a cold season, too. I'm sure we'll be seeing some winter weather soon.
