Tricolored Heron

The Tricolored Heron was another bird that we saw in Florida in January. Today's post includes several photos of this medium-sized heron, with a short video at the end of the post.

The photo above was taken from the video that appears at the end of the post.

  3. you're totally rubbing it in, now. another i've never seen in person. :) loved the video. they are such active hunters. unlike the great blue heron and great egret that stand so stoically, these run around and try to scare up their food. so beautiful.

  5. I didn't get the video, not sure why. I like the 4th shot with a reflection and the bird so symmetrical.

  11. Interesting bird. They confused me as a new birders for several years as they used to be called Louisiana Herons. There name change came about as they spread along the Gulf Coast and even north to the Carolinas along the Atlantic....:)

  12. Hi Linda! That water is so clear! I wonder what this bird is eating in the video? It looks like he is pecking at the silt...are there little clams under there?

I love the shot with the feet breaking the water, with the mirror image showing in the water too. You do such interesting work my friend!
