Continuing the saga of our western trip in September...
Before leaving Scottsbluff, Nebraska on September 18, we went back to the Scotts Bluff National Monument and drove to the summit.
Above is the view from the South Overlook on the summit of Scotts Bluff. The little cluster of buildings is the Visitor Center. The road leads from there, through three tunnels, to the summit.
The rest of the photos on this post are roadside scenes as we traveled from Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Independence Rock in Wyoming, southwest of Casper.
I know that Montana is called "Big Sky Country," but Wyoming has some pretty big skies, too.
Scenes like this are so different from the corn and soybean fields we're used to in Indiana.

I don't want to overload you with too many pictures, so I'll save Independence Rock and other Oregon Trail landmarks for the next post.
Sure is some pretty landscape. I love that curved road in the first photo.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you went back to Scotts Bluff National Monument. The view from the summit is spectacular. I like that Wyoming sky (and landscape) as well.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a beautiful area, Linda. If you look at the top of the mountains on this post (and on your last post), the 'trees'??? up there make it look like lots of people are standing up there looking down… ha ha

Hi Linda! I have heard of the Platte River (I wonder if settlers had to cross it?), but seeing it here is such a treat. I agree, those skies are HUGE! My daughter lives in Indiana, so I know what you mean about the difference in vista. Acres of corn and soybeans vs. red rocks and snaking rivers.
