Good Friday

This cartoon of “B.C.,” by syndicated cartoonist Johnny Hart, says it so well.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. (Romans 5:8-10)

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:6)

  3. Linda, this is a great illustration! It's difficult to comprehend what the Lord did for us...the magnitude, the sacrifice, the pain...all for us. I pray you have a very blessed Easter, dear girl.

  6. GOOD for us ---not GOOD for Jesus. BUT--it's neat to think that Jesus was on that cross JUST for us. He died on the cross to save US... Praise God. That is GOOD.
    Hugs,

  7. What an apt cartoon, Linda. There is a post today at the V&V blog titled "What's Good About Good Friday?" I saw the title in the morning without reading the rest of the post and had to think about it all day. My answer was the same as the cartoon conveys. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." That's good about Good Friday to me.

By the way, in Czech we don't say 'Good Friday' but 'Great Friday' and I find it somewhat more understandable. Something great happened...

  8. Wishing you a blessed Easter, too, Steve.

Theresa - The term, "Good Friday," does seem like a misnomer if the focus is on Christ's suffering, but "good" doesn't seem like a strong enough adjective when you think of what it means to us poor, lost sinners.

Gail - A blessed Easter to you, too, my friend.

Thanks for the visit, George. A blessed Easter to you, too.

    Amen, Ruth. Amen!

    So true, Betsy. So true.

Petra - I think it's neat that you saw that post title and had all day to think about it before reading the actual post. It's something we should all meditate on from time to time. I think your Czech saying may be more suitable than ours. :)

  10. It is interesting you put "Good Friday" cartoon on your blog as that is some of what Pastor Scott eplained at our "Good Friday" service. From his mother's perspective and people who watched him go through the suffering it was very hard, but Jesus knew His Father's prophecies had to be fulfilled or we wouldn't be set free from our terrible sins. What a Savior, and therefore what a Great Friday to have a way to get to heaven by faith!
