Treasures, Part 3

Here are some more items from my mother's old jewelry box.

I came across this necklace about a year ago and realized how pretty it was. I know I'd seen it before, but its charm was lost on me until recently. The picture doesn't show too much of the chain, but it's unusual enough to add to the charm of the necklace.

This is another necklace that I find interesting because of its old-fashioned look. The filigree work is on a translucent material that is probably some sort of plastic that has a kind of sunburst look to it. The stone in the center may or may not be a tiny diamond. My main reason for thinking it might be real is that it's so tiny. It seems that, if it were a rhinestone, they would have used a gaudier one. The butterfly-shaped filigree piece on the chain is a sort of gold color, rather than the white of the pendant and chain. I'm not sure whether that was intentional or whether it has tarnished with age.

This necklace has a lovely green stone in a white filigree setting. It has some filigree work on the chain that is similar to the previous photo, but it is white on this necklace. There are also some little pearls and imitation stones enhancing the chain.

This cameo necklace has always been a favorite of mine. I love the chain, the little dangly things under the pendant, the cameo itself, and its setting. I could probably do without the rhinestones at the four corners, but they don't keep me from enjoying this piece.

This is an old locket which has always held a fascination for me because of the elaborate detail on its face.

I hope I haven't bored everyone to death with these trinkets from my past. But, if I have, you can relax now. I think I've pretty well exhausted my supply.

  1. These are fun and I hope you are wearing them. Sitting in a box is not what they were made for. I laughed at getting all my Grandfathers fishing equipment and my Grandmohter said,"Why would I have given it to you if you weren't going to use it."One day while fishing ,a fellow sat down next to me and saw what i was using for a lure. He asked if i knew what it was. I said I got it from my Grandfather. He offered me $50 on the spot.I laughed and had a bunch appraised, finding I had a goldmine in lures and poles. I still use a lot of it, but put those lures aside. Even though I had lost a few,I knew they were put to good use.

  2. I'm glad you've enjoyed hearing about them, Steve. I'd like to see some of the things you inherited from your grandfather, too. I think you mentioned that you had been given his watch. And the fishing lures would probably be interesting to people who know something about them.

  4. I don't wear a lot of jewelry, Lori; but I am wearing some of the necklaces. Most of the rings featured in Treasures, Part 2 would need to be resized, and I'm not sure how much I would wear them. Thanks for your kind words.

  5. They are lovely pieces, Linda. Your mother had good taste and her daughter has the good sense to share that with her blogging buddies. I am very much enjoying these.

  8. These are so lovely! When I was a little girl my grandmother took me aside and gave me a whole bunch of her jewelry. Just a year or two ago I realized no one else has anything from her and i decided to share it all among the nieces and nephews and my sibling. I saved one item, a locket with a photo of her as a toddler and as a young woman. It's so nice to have a piece of your mother in something so beautiful.

  9. Thank you, Kristina. It was fun posting about these things. I know that, with your traveling lifetsyle, you can't keep a lot of mementos; but I'm glad you kept your grandmother's locket. I think the day would have come when you would have regretted not having anything of hers.

  10. These are all just beautiful. I can picture your mom wearing them to her job at the law office. Do you think she did that? They really ARE too pretty to just stay in a box. I'm glad you're wearing some of them. :)

  11. Sandra - You know, it's funny; but I really don't picture any of these things on my mom...just in her jewelry box. That's probably where I saw them the most. When she was away, I could sneak into her room and look in that box. :) Of course, the big exception would be her wedding rings, which she always wore.
